Questions
Before you switch
Do I need an internet connection?
No. Document editing, spreadsheets, presentations, canvases and local AI generation all work fully offline. You need a connection once, to download your local AI model on first launch — after that, it's optional.
Will the AI actually run on my laptop?
Yes, on effectively anything from the last decade. 8GB of RAM runs the bundled small model comfortably. More RAM or a GPU unlocks larger, faster models — Quires detects your hardware on first launch and recommends the right one automatically.
Do I need a card to join the waitlist?
No. Joining the waitlist only needs an email address — nothing is charged and no card is collected. When Quires launches, we'll email everyone on the list first, with the trial and pricing described here.
When does it launch?
We don't have a fixed date to announce yet. The waitlist is exactly how we tell people the moment that changes — and joining now locks in today's £59 introductory price ahead of the rise to £99 at launch.
Is the £12/year update fee mandatory?
No. It's entirely optional — skip it and Quires keeps working exactly as you bought it, you just won't receive that year's updates, which include the continuous improvements we ship based on what customers actually ask for. If you do pay it, it's billed £12 annually from your purchase date (your own renewal date, not a fixed calendar date). This is the opposite of a subscription: nothing stops working if you don't pay.
Can I open my existing office documents?
DRAFT and FIELD read and write .docx and .xlsx. STAGE can open and export .pptx, but layout is approximate — animations, SmartArt, speaker notes, and native charts will not come through unchanged. Native work stays on your machine as .dra, .fld, and .stg.
Is my data actually private?
By architecture, not just by policy. The default AI tier runs entirely on your device — nothing is sent anywhere. Cloud AI is available as an explicit, opt-in bridge for people who want extra power, but it's never the default and never nudged.
